Cajun Shrimp Recipe

When it comes to Cajun shrimp and sausage, there’s no dish more iconic or more delicious. The classic Louisiana dish is a must-try for any seafood lover. Shrimp and sausage are simmered in a flavorful tomato-based sauce, which is then served over rice. The result is a hearty and satisfying meal that is sure to please.

This easy Cajun shrimp recipe has been simplified to a sheet pan meal, so it’s easy to make and clean up. All you need is a single pan and about 30 minutes, making it a quick dinner on a busy weeknight.

Ingredients In This Recipe

The key to this dish is the Cajun seasoning, which typically includes paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and black pepper. This spice blend gives the shrimp and sausage a kick that is sure to please any palate.

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 14 oz  pork or chicken sausage – andouille sausage is a natural for this recipe
  • 1 cup zucchini, sliced
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, cut into cubes
  • 4 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
  • 2 lemons, quartered
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun Seasoning – You are welcome to use homemade Cajun seasoning or simply buy a bottle at the store. (I used Weber’s N’Orleans Cajun Seasoning.)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 Fahrenheit. Spritz a sheet pan with cooking spray.
  2. Combine shrimp, sausage, zucchini, bell pepper, garlic, and lemon in a large bowl. Season with salt, pepper, oil, cajun seasoning, and oregano. Toss until all is coated.
  3. Spread the shrimp mixture onto a sheet pan in a single layer.
  4. Bake for 15-20 minutes on the middle rack of the oven.

When baking shrimp, you want to ensure they are all opaque – meaning you can no longer see through them. The shrimp should also be slightly pink in color.

Tips

If you can’t find fresh, raw shrimp, look for frozen large shrimp. Follow the directions on the bag on how to thaw. Be sure to thaw the shrimp before using it.
