This taco bake is a taco pie with a delicious crescent roll crust topped with seasoned beef and shredded Cheddar cheese that is then baked. It’s a delicious way to enjoy the taste of a taco without the messy taco shells. Don’t be surprised if your kids ask for seconds!


To make this recipe, you need the following ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ¾ cup salsa
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning mix
  • 8-ounce crescent rolls
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese


Start by preheating your oven to 375° Fahrenheit. While your oven is warming up, cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until there is no pink.

Once the beef has cooked, add taco seasoning and salsa to the beef and simmer for 3-4 minutes to help meld the flavors.

While the beef mixture is simmering, open an 8-ounce can of crescent rolls (it’s the larger-sized can). Place the triangles on a 10-inch pie plate and press the seams to form a pie crust.

If you want to get “all fancy,” take a fork and place the tines (the long park where you eat) on the edge of the crust to crimp it.

Next, place the cooked beef mixture onto the pie crust and top it with Cheddar cheese.

Baking time

Bake the taco pie for 15-17 minutes – until the pie crust turns a nice, golden brown and the cheese is nice and melted.

Take the taco pie out of the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes to cool off just a bit.

Serve this pie with shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes on top.

Taco Bake Variations

Feel free to put your own spin on this taco bake recipe. Don’t like ground beef? You can substitute ground turkey or ground chicken for beef. Vegetarian? Use a meatless crumble instead.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ¾ cup salsa
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning
  • 8 ounce crescent rolls
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Optional Toppings

  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup tomatoes diced
  • ¼ cup jalapeno slices
  • 1 medium avocado sliced
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup salsa


  • Preheat oven to 375° Fahrenheit.
  • In a large skillet on medium heat, cook ground beef until it is no longer pink. Add salsa and taco seasoning and simmer for 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Unroll crescent rolls and press over the bottom and sides of a 10-inch pie plate.
  • Spoon ground beef mixture over crescent roll pie crust. Sprinkle pie with Cheddar cheese.
  • Bake pie for 15 to 17 minutes or until the crust turns golden brown and the cheese has melted. Remove from oven and allow the pie to cool for 5 minutes.
  • Top pie with shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes.


You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef or use meatless crumbles to make a vegetarian option.
For added texture, add a layer of crushed Doritos or tortilla chips to the top of the pie before baking.
