How To Make Cool Ranch Doritos Taco Salad

  1. Cook ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat until it is no longer pink. For best results, drain cooked ground beef on a paper towel to drain the grease. Place the cooked beef back in the pan and add the taco seasoning (follow the directions on the packet). Once the beef mixture has cooked, set it aside.
  2. Hold a bag of Doritos in both hands and crush chips.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Lettuce – Shredded lettuce, pre-cut Romaine lettuce, chopped iceberg lettuce, or a prepackaged lettuce blend work well.
  • Cheese – Use your favorite cheese. Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack, Mexican cheese blend, and Cheddar cheese are good options.
  • Taco Seasoning – You can make your own homemade taco seasoning by combining chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Salad Dressing – While Ranch dressing is the default for this recipe, Avocado-Lime Dressing or Jalapeno Ranch are also good options.
  • Ground beef – You can replace it with ground chicken or ground turkey.

Can I make this salad in advance?

Yes and no. You can prep all of the items and store them in the refrigerator separately. When you are ready to make the salad, reheat the meat in the microwave until it is warm throughout. After the meat has warmed, you can assemble the salad. You don’t want to store warm meat with cool salad ingredients.
