Zaxby’s Salad Options that You’ll Love!

Sharing is caring!

When you think of Zaxby’s, chicken fingers and wings probably come to mind — but don’t overlook their salads (or “Zalads,” as they call them). Zaxby’s offers several hearty options loaded with fresh greens, protein, and flavorful toppings, making them a great choice if you want something lighter without giving up taste. Whether you’re grabbing lunch on the go or looking for a healthier fast-food option, Zaxby’s salads are worth checking out.

They offer a variety of salads that you can feel great about eating. So next time you are looking to order some fast food, Zaxby’s is a good bet when it comes to healthy options. Let’s take a look at their menu and see what types of salads Zaxby’s offers now, seasonally, and in the past.

Zaxby’s House Zalad

Zaxby’s House Zalad

Zaxby’s House Zalads are their signature salad and are always on the menu. You can order one with either fried or grilled chicken. They each start with a salad base and are topped with cucumbers, Roma tomatoes, Cheddar/Jack cheese, and fried onions.

Zaxby’s Grilled House Zalad is one of my favorites because it is not only delicious, but it is also very filling.

The Grilled House Zalad comes in at 580 calories, 35 grams of carbohydrates, 27 grams of fat, 52 grams of protein, 1720 mg of sodium, and 6 grams of fiber.

The Fried House Zalad has 700 calories, 46 grams of carbohydrates, 38 grams of fat, 46 grams of protein, 1920 mg of sodium, and 6 grams of fiber.

Zaxby’s Cobb Zalads

Just like the House Zalads, Zaxby’s offers two versions of a cobb salad – grilled and cobb. Both have a salad base topped with cucumbers, Roma tomatoes, Cheddar/Jack cheese, fried onions, bacon, a hard-boiled egg, a grilled fillet or chicken fingers, and are served with Texas toast.

The Grilled Cobb Zalad with toast has 700 calories, 35 grams of carbohydrates, 35 grams of fat, 61 grams of protein, 1910 mg of sodium, and 6 grams of fiber.

The Fried Cobb Zalad with toast has 820 calories, 47 grams of carbohydrates, 47 grams of fat, 56 grams of protein, 2100 mg of sodium, and 6 grams of fiber.

Zaxby’s also offers a Garden Cobb Zalad which is very much like the other two, with the exception that there is no chicken. (Note:  It’s not a vegetarian-friendly salad – it does have bacon.)

The Garden Cobb Zalad with Texas toast has 530 calories, 34 grams of carbohydrates, 34 grams of fat, 26 grams of protein, 870 mg of sodium, and 5 grams of fiber.

The Blackened Blue Zalad

Diners still have the option between fried chicken or grilled chicken on any salad.

The Blackened Blue Zalad started with a salad base and was topped with Roma tomatoes, blue cheese, fried onions, and a blackened grilled filet, and it was served with Texas Toast.

Without salad dressing, the salad only had 540 calories – including the toast!

A spicier version of the Blackened Blue Zalad was The Buffalo Blue Zalad. The difference is that the latter was topped with Chicken Fingers and Tongue Torch (sauce).

The Blackened Blue Zalad had 530 calories, 34 grams of carbohydrates, 24 grams of fat, 47 grams of protein, 2000 mg of sodium, and 6 grams of fiber.

The Buffalo Blue Zalad had 680 calories, 48 grams of carbohydrates, 35 grams of fat, 41 grams of protein, 2710 mg of sodium, and 6 grams of fiber.

Zaxby’s Southwest Zalad (Currently Not Available)

Zaxby's southwest salad with tomatoes, corn, lettuce, fried chicken, and Texas toast.

Introduced in the summer of 2021, the Southwest salad was the newest seasonal salad to grace Zaxby’s menu. The salad is made with a mixed greens base topped with fire-roasted corn, Cheddar and Jack cheeses, chopped Roma tomatoes, crispy Santa Fe tortilla strips, and a choice of fried chicken or grilled. The salad pairs well with the limited-time Southwest Ranch dressing.

The Southwest Zalad comes in at 450 calories, 44 grams of carbohydrates, 24 grams of fat, 18 grams of protein, 650 mg of sodium, and 7 grams of fiber.

Zaxby’s Zensation Zalad (Available Seasonally)

The Zensation Zalad is a seasonal, limited-time offering and has 810 calories which include the eggroll (120 calories) and a packet of citrus vinaigrette dressing (140 calories).

With the fried chicken, eggroll, and citrus vinaigrette, the Zalad contains 40g of total fat and 72g of total carbohydrates.

Zaxby’s Zensible Zalads (Retired)

Fried Zensible Cobb Zalad

The Zensible Zalads made their debut in 2022. And about as fast as they came, they went.

Both the House and the Cobb Zalad were available as a Zensible Zalad and each salad, along with 1 packet of Lite Vinaigrette, had only 600 calories.

What’s different between these salads and their original counterpart? First of all, Texas toast is noticeably absent. Also, the crispy fried onions were removed. To keep the calorie count at 600, only 1 packet of Lite Vinaigrette makes the cut to top these delicious, full-size salads.

Zaxby’s Caesar Zalads (Retired)

Each Caesar salad had a Caesar salad base, bacon, and Parmesan cheese, and was topped with croutons.

  • The Grilled Caesar Zalad was topped with a grilled filet and had 550 calories, 31 grams of carbohydrates, 23 grams of fat, 54 grams of protein, 2110 mg of sodium, and 4 grams of fiber.
  • The Fried Caesar Zalad was topped with chicken fingers and had 670 calories, 42 grams of carbohydrates, 34 grams of fat, 48 grams of protein, 2300 mg of sodium, and 4 grams of fiber.
  • The Garden Caesar Zalad, again not a vegetarian-friendly salad due to bacon, had 380 calories, 29 grams of carbohydrates, 21 grams of fat, 18 grams of protein, 1070 mg of sodium, and 4 grams of fiber.

Each Zalad is served with two slices of Zaxby’s Texas Toast. Pass on the bread and you will save 150 calories.

Zaxby’s Salad Dressings

Keep in mind that the calorie counts for each of those salads do not include salad dressing. Below are the salad dressings offered at Zaxby’s along with their calorie count (per packet):

  • Ranch – 160
  • Blue Cheese – 180
  • Honey French – 150
  • Honey Mustard – 150
  • Mediterranean – 140
  • Lite Ranch – 90
  • Caesar – 90
  • 1000 Island – 230
  • Lite Vinaigrette – 35

Each salad is served with two packets of dressing.

My favorite is the Lite Vinaigrette. I only use one on my salad and I take the other home to use on a homemade salad.

The Zaxby’s App

Zaxby’s joined the mobile/online ordering game by introducing their app which is available at Google Play and the App Store. The app allows users to order their food via the app and pick it up at the restaurant. You can earn points for your purchases and redeem them later for free food or a discount on your order. Periodically, Zaxby’s will reward users with free food.

At the time of writing this, one downside of the app is that you are unable to fully customize your order, at least when it pertains to beverages. Want your drink without ice? You’re out of luck.

About Zaxby’s

Collage featuring an Asian salad, a Zaxby’s Zensible Zalads sign, a fried Cobb salad, and the exterior entrance of a Zaxby’s restaurant.

According to Zaxby’s website, Zaxby’s got its start in Statesboro, Georgia, when friends Zach McLeroy and Tony Townley dreamed up the idea of Zaxby’s while playing basketball.

If you are from Northwest Alabama, then you will have heard the rumors (could they be true?), that Zaxby’s was started by a former employee of Guthrie’s Chicken which was founded in Haleyville, Alabama, home. Compare their chicken menu and you will spot similarities.

According to Wikipedia, there is a bit of truth to the rumor, “Zaxby’s chicken and Zax Sauce is based on another smaller chicken finger chain called Guthrie’s that existed in Athens, Georgia while Zach McLeroy attended the University of Georgia. “

If you’re not near a Zaxby’s but still want a salad that’s both satisfying and convenient, there are plenty of other options to explore. Wendy’s salads and the healthier choices at Chick-fil-A are great alternatives when you’re on the go, and even Whataburger has salads on the menu. Or, if you’re more in the mood for a sit-down meal, check out my post on Applebee’s lunch menu, where I break down five hearty options worth trying.

Zaxby’s may be known for its chicken, but their salads prove that fast food can be fresh, filling, and full of flavor. 🥗 Have you tried one yet? 1. Hi, can you please give me an idea of when the Zensation Zalad is coming back? I absolutely crave that salad. I had one every day when it was here last. I love it. Please don’t retire it. Thanks so much. JT

    1. I understand it comes in January 8-14…oh, and BTW..Everyone posts that the Citrus Vinaigrette Dressing is 140cal/pk…WRONG ..it’s only 110/pk..

  2. On the southwest GARDEN salad what are the Marcos? Carbs, fats and protein?

I need to enter in my fitness pal 😩

  3. Food is good! But only for a treat! I have started only ordering the kids meal for myself as I now have a smaller appetite

  4. The sodium content is horrendous! They must soak the chicken in brine. I always loved Zaxby’s until I had to go low sodium. Nobody should put that much sodium in anything!!!
