Brown Sugar Blondies
Move over brownies. These blondies are rich and decadent thanks to a base of brown sugar and butter. White chocolate chips and toffee baking chips add a delicious layer of sweetness. This just might become your favorite blondie recipe.
For a chocolate lover like me, it’s sometimes hard to fathom that some people don’t eat chocolate. (My husband is one such person.) This blonde brownie recipe contains no chocolate and is a delicious treat for non-chocolate eaters and chocolate lovers alike.
What is the difference between a blondie and a brownie?
The primary difference between a blondie and a brownie is that blondies are made WITHOUT chocolate. The star ingredient of brownies is chocolate and the name is derived from the brown color of chocolate.
Let’s take a look at how easy it is to make this indulgent dessert from scratch with simple ingredients.
Ingredients
For this recipe, you need the following:
- 1½ cups brown sugar packed
- 1 cup butter, melted
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup white baking chips
- 1 cup toffee baking chips
How To Make Blondies
- Preheat oven to 375° Fahrenheit. Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper. Spray the sides of the pan with nonstick spray. Set the pan aside.
- Cream butter and brown sugar together in the bowl of an electric mixer using the whisk attachment.
- Add eggs and vanilla and beat until smooth.
- Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture.
- Fold in white baking chips and toffee chips.
- Pour blondie batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until the center is set and a toothpick inserted comes out clean. They should have a beautiful golden brown color and crispy edges.
- Allow blondies to cool completely before cutting and serving.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
Can blondie brownies be frozen?
Absolutely. Once they have cooled, slice them into portions and wrap each portion in plastic wrap. Place the blondies in an airtight container like a ziptop bag. Be sure to remove any excess air from the bag before zipping it. Freeze for up to 3 months.
Recipe Notes
Feel free to use semisweet chocolate chips, chocolate chunks, or milk chocolate chips in place of the white chips if chocolate is not an issue. Peanut butter chips and butterscotch chips are also tasty options.
If you like nuts, add a cup of chopped walnuts or toasted pecans to the batter before baking.
This recipe was made using unsalted butter. If you only have salted butter, cut the salt down to ½ teaspoon salt.
