If you’re looking for a savory breakfast option, try the breakfast sandwich with egg and cheese on a freshly-made biscuit or croissant. Whether you’re health-conscious or not, you will find items that are both healthy and delicious on their menu, like their açaí bowls. (There are 5 acai bowls on the menu as well as a BYOB – build your own bowl option.)

Additionally, the downtown Huntsville location has breakfast sandwiches for both vegans and omnivores alike, bagels, a hot chicken and honey biscuit, and granola. If you are there at lunchtime, perhaps a wrap, panini, or some chicken salad would hit the spot.

5. Earth and Stone Wood Fired Pizza

If pizza is what you’re craving, Earth and Stone Wood Pizza is the place to go. What started as a mobile pizza oven in 2013 has become a local pizza favorite in two locations in the area.

The original location is located inside Campus 805 at 2600 Clinton Avenue West. The menu features Small Plates options (cheesy bread, meatballs, and a wood fired pretzel), Salads (classic Italian, Classic Caesar, The White Hot, Caprese Salad, and a Garden Salad), Sandwiches  (The Cuban, The Meatball Sub, and The Italian to name a few), Calzones (The Carnivore, The Meatball, and The Cheese), and their pizzas.

The pizzas at Earth and Stone are available in 10-inch or 14-inch pies and are all wood fired. They have been creatively named, like The Patriarch which comes with red sauce, mozzarella/provolone cheese, pepperoni, bacon and Italian sausage, baby bella mushrooms, red onion, and red bell pepper. There is also the Infamous Tommy G with red sauce, cheese, pepperoni, bacon, Italian sausage, fresh baby spinach, and fresh basil. There is even an option that is vegetarian-friendly – The Green Street (red sauce, cheese, spinach, mushrooms, red bell pepper, red onion, and Kalamata olives).

After enjoying one of their homemade pizza pies, consider trying some of their homemade ice adult ice creams. The flavors change seasonally, so you might be able to sample something new every time.

7. Full Moon BBQ

Though not a Huntsville original, this Alabama-based restaurant is still a great spot for some good old-fashioned Southern BBQ.

At Full Moon BBQ, you can get all the usual suspects like BBQ pork sandwiches, smoked wings, ribs, and brisket plates. Kids love the BBQ pork nachos and the macaroni and cheese. Personally, I like to get The Big Baker (loaded baked potato) and top it with both BBQ sauce and Alabama White Sauce.

The atmosphere pays homage to the state’s two major college football teams: Alabama and Auburn. But no matter who you cheer for, you’ll be sure to find something that you’ll love on the menu.

Full Moon BBQ is located at 1009 Memorial Parkway near Costco. It is open from 10:30 am until 8:30 pm Monday through Friday, Saturday from 10:30 am until 9:30 pm, and Sunday from 11:00 am until 8:30 pm.

If you’re looking for authentic German cuisine, then head over to Ol Heidelberg. This cozy establishment serves traditional German food like Schnitzel and Bratwurst along with traditional German side dishes like potato salad, sauerkraut, potato dumplings, and house-made spaetzle. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the selection might have you thinking you are in Germany. (If you prefer to dine outside, there is also an outdoor patio.)

If you are new to German food and not sure what to order, let me recommend their toasted Reuben sandwich with a side of potato salad. It’s a great introduction to the cuisine.

10. Viet Cuisine

One of our favorite places is located in a relatively nondescript building just off University Drive. But don’t let the exterior fool you; inside lies a hidden gem of Vietnamese cuisine aptly named Viet Cuisine.

Viet Cuisine serves boba tea, seafood, pork, beef, and chicken dishes, clay pots, fried rice, and banh mi.  They also have a few vegetarian options. My favorites on the menu are the clay pots, while Jeff always orders their lemongrass chicken.
