Homemade Orange Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • Orange zest
  • 5 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt

Orange Cream Icing

  • 1 ¼ cups shortening
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • 1 16- ounce box powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Cream sugar, eggs, butter, buttermilk, orange zest and orange juice.
  • Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together. Add to creamed mixture. Allow dough to stand 10 – 15 minutes.
  • Drop by tablespoonfuls on greased cookie sheets. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
  • To make Orange Cream Frosting, mix shortening, ¼ cup orange juice, powdered sugar, and vanilla together until smooth and creamy.
