Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla together and spread over the bottom of a cooked pie crust.
Mash 1 ½ cups berries; add sugar, pepper, and ⅓ cup water. Bring to a boil. Add cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water to sauce; cook until thickened.
Place the remaining berries in the pie crust on top of the cream cheese layer. Pour the strawberry mixture over the berries and chill for 2 hours.
