As I was working on my computer yesterday, I got really thirsty. I wanted something cool and sweet, but yet I didn’t want to “be bad” because I am on a roll and have started to lose a little weight. To satisfy my craving,I made a Tropical Fruit Smoothie. I already had frozen pineapple juice, Almond Breeze Almondmilk Coconutmilk Unsweetened, and a banana all ready to use.
To make this, I took my pineapple juice ice cubes and placed them in the bottom of my blender. (I had previously poured a 6 ounce can into my ice cube tray and froze it.) On top of that I added 1/2 of a banana.
I then poured 1/2 cup Almond Breeze Almondmilk Coconutmilk Unsweetened. I set my blender to “smoothie” cycle and ran it until the mixture was smooth.
I guesstimate that the entire drink only has about 175 calories. That might sound like a lot when you are trying to lose weight, but let’s look at the ingredients. 100 calories are from the pineapple juice. Pineapples are a good source of Vitamin C and the enzyme bromelain. Bananas contain a resistant starch which may make you feel full longer. One whole banana contains approximately 105 calories. Only half of a banana is used in this fruity beverage. Almond Breeze Almondmilk Coconutmilk Unsweetened is dairy-, soy-, lactose-, cholesterol-, and gluten-free. One whole cup has a mere 45 calories, and only 1/2 cup is used to make this recipe.
Tropical Fruit Smoothie
- 6 ounces pineapple juice frozen into cubes
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 cup Almond Breeze Almondmilk Coconutmilk Unsweetened
Place all ingredients into blender and process on "smoothie" setting until smooth.
This cool, creamy beverage is slightly sweet – there is no added sugar. Even though it does have calories, they are not “empty calories.” There is over 1 1/2 servings of fruit in each Tropical Fruit Smoothie. I can actually feel pretty good about enjoying this fruity drink.
