Subscription boxes have become quite the rage. What’s not to like when you have delicious goodies delivered right to your home. Were you aware, though, that there are boxes for those who follow a Paleo lifestyle? Paleo Pax fills the niche for those who want quality Paleo snacks by offering three different subscription boxes – Gatherer, Hunter, and Mammoth.
For those who want to try out a few treats a month, the Gatherer ($35) includes 8-10 snacks per order. The Hunter ($60) is a bit bigger with 18 – 20 snacks per order. For those who really want to delve into Paleo snacks, the Mammoth box ($89) comes packed with 38-40 snacks.
I really wanted to stock up on Paleo snacks so I took the plunge and ordered a Mammoth box. Initially I was surprised that the box seemed so small. However, when I opened it up, I discovered that there was no fluff – it was all Paleo snacks inside the box.
This was I saw when I opened the box. I then took everything out to get a better idea of what was included. (Keep in mind that with subscription boxes, items typically change and what you get one month will probably not be what you get the next.)
As you can see, it appears to be a pretty good variety of snacks. Let me break it down further for you.
There were 8 meat snacks by Nick’s Sticks. There were four grass-fed beef sticks, two of which were labeled “spicy.” There were four free-range turkey snack sticks, two of which were also labeled “spicy.” These meat sticks are free of MSG, nitrates, antibiotics, hormones, sugar, red dye, and gluten. (If you buy these individually, you are looking at paying roughly $3.25 per pack plus shipping.)
There were four Simple Squares in the box, two of each Ginger and Coffee varieties. These organic, kosher, and gluten-free bars are made with five simple ingredients and are sold by the box. A 12 pack variety box costs $29.99, therefore these squares run about $2.50 per bar.
The two cacao mint Kur bars will probably be the first treats that I try. They came along with two coconut cashew bars, all of which are organic, gluten-free, non-GMO verified, and made of simple raw ingredients. A 12-pack of the bars costs $23.85.
Cricket flour. There were two apple cinnamon and two blueberry vanilla protein bars by exo that are made with cricket flour. These bars are soy, dairy, grain, and gluten-free and made with crickets. (BTW, did you know that crickets are 65% protein?!) A box of 12 bars can cost as much as $42.00.
Four hemp bars (2 cherry walnut and 2 cashew cacao) by Evo Hemp were included in the box. These are nutritionally dense bars filled with complete protein, minerals, fiber and a perfect balance of omega 3 essential oils. They are made with raw fruits, nuts, and hemp seeds and come in a six different flavors. (A sample of six bars costs $12.49.)
And last, but not least, were Caveman Cookies. Like the other goodies in the box, they are gluten-free and 100% natural. Ten cookies were in the box, two of five different flavors (tropical, new world, alpine, rainforest, and original). A box of 8 cookies costs $5.95.
In the box that I received were 38 Paleo treats that would have retailed for approximately $90.49. That means that by purchasing the Mammoth box, I saved $1.49. That might not sound like much, but there is also taxes and shipping to consider on each of the individual treats had they been purchased separately. Plus, some of the items have minimum purchase requirements, so whereas there were four bars of a particular item in the box, to order the same item online I might have to purchase a minimum of six or more.
Paleo Pax is a monthly subscription service. The boxes ship quickly – I can personally vouch that my box arrived amazingly fast. Boxes can be shipped anywhere in the US, including military bases. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time. They even have a guarantee listed on their website: If you love snacks, we have more good news: these Paleo snacks are delicious. We won’t send you gross snacks. We guarantee it or your money back, and we’ll brand ourselves with sad faces to remind us of our shame.
When the people at Paleo Pax got word that I was doing a post about their subscription box, they created a special promo code for Southern Kissed readers. When you enter the promo code SOUTHERNKISSED, you will get 10% off your first subscription.
