It is finally happening. My oldest child is graduating from COLLEGE. Pretty soon she will spread her wings and fly away. Before she leaves, I am trying to help prepare her for life on her own. One of the neat things I have done, if I do say so myself, is to compile our family’s favorite recipes into a cookbook. It’s customized just for her.
An Easy Way to Preserve Family Recipes
Preserving family recipes on recipe cards is sweet, but preserving them in a custom made book is COOL, KWIM?
I used the online tools at CreateMyCookbook to make a hardback book that I entitled Family Favorites. I included recipes that I know she loves and that she will want to recreate when she is on her own.
I opted to make her a hardback cookbook that lies flat when opened, making it easy to read the recipes. It has a nifty Table of Contents in the front listing the recipes in the book.
There are several layout options that I could choose from, and I was able to mix and match them however I wanted. For some of the recipes, I included a picture along with the directions. CreateMyCookbook also has templates so that you can include a story, a special photograph, or a dedication page. It’s a great way of passing recipes along with family stories.
I wrapped the cookbook up along with a holiday hand towel that I think she will like, as well as with a couple of sturdy spoons that she can use when she makes some of the recipes that I included.
I topped the package with a spatula and silver garnish to complement the theme. It’s a gift that she will be able to use throughout her life.
