If you live in the state of Alabama, you pull for either Alabama or Auburn. (If you move here from out-of-state, you might start to wonder if it is some kind of mandate – You must declare which team you are for: Alabama or Auburn.) Especially the one day of the year when the two football teams go head-to-head at the Iron Bowl.
This year the Iron Bowl will take place tomorrow at Jordan Hare Stadium in Auburn. For those who will be watching the game from the comfort of their home, I have two Bloody Mary recipes from Johnsonville to share with you. They’re both a twist on the classic drink and feature a garnish of Johnsonville sausage. (If you don’t consume alcohol, you can omit the vodka or use the equivalent amount of water in its place.)
You don’t have to be a fan of football to enjoy these cocktails. Just remember to enjoy them in moderation.
Screamin’ Eagle Bloody Mary
- 1 cup vodka
- 3 cups standard Bloody Mary mix or tomato juice
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
- 2 teaspoon hot sauce
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons horseradish sauce
- 2 Johnsonville Beddar with Cheddar Smoked Sausages
- 1/4 teaspoon celery salt
- 4 pickles
In a shaker or pitcher, mix vodka, Bloody Mary mix or tomato juice, lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, hot sauce, cayenne pepper, ground pepper and horseradish.
Pour into 4 glasses with ice.
Cut Beddar with Cheddar Smoked Sausage into pieces.
For the garnish, assemble each of the four skewers with pieces of smoked sausage and pickle spear. Place skewer into cocktail.
Want to know which team I am rooting for? I won’t tell, but perhaps you can figure it out by my Bloody Mary pictured below. I made it following one of the recipes above.
