This year I have been working on eating fewer carbs. Even though I was doing well at finding a variety of things to eat for my meals, I did not find many recipes for a treat that is low in carbohydrates. It hit me that I could create a low carb smoothie using unsweetened Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Almondmilk Original Unsweetened, stevia, chocolate, and avocado. Yes – avocado! I added a little instant coffee and vanilla flavoring to enhance the chocolate flavor. When you try this, you won’t be able to tell that there is avocado in this smoothie.
The definition of a smoothie is a thick, smooth drink of fresh fruit pureed with milk, yogurt, or ice cream. Avocados are great in smoothies because they provide healthy fat and help to give the smoothie a nice, creamy texture. A little fat helps to satisfy hunger pangs.
Using almond milk is a great way to enjoy a smoothie that is dairy free. A tip that I have for keeping the smoothie from getting watered down is to make almond milk ice cubes. After I make almond milk cubes, I place them in a freezer zipper bag and then they are ready when I am. I just toss the cubes in the blender with the rest of the ingredients to make an ice-y smooth treat.
This is a tasty way to have a cool, frosty-like treat that is creamy and low carb. If you are also on a low carb diet or are just watching your sugar consumption, try this chocolate smoothie made with almond milk.
If you are not counting carbs and want a delicious smoothie with fruit such as bananas, blueberries, and/or strawberries, simply use Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Vanilla Almondmilk and almond milk cubes. There are only 80 calories per cup of almond milk and it tastes great.
