Cooking delicious homemade meals from scratch does not have to be a chore, thanks to Blue Apron. They make it easy to create gourmet meals without the hassle of shopping for hard-to-find ingredients or picking complimentary sides to go with the main dish. They do all of that for you and then ship you all of the necessary ingredients (with the exception of oil and basic seasonings like salt and pepper) on ice along with step-by-step directions.
The ingredients come pre-portioned, meaning that if you need three potatoes, then you get three potatoes. Four chicken breasts needed? Then you get four chicken breasts. There’s no need for you to have to run to the store to pick up an item that you thought you had on hand but don’t.

One of the things that I particularly like about Blue Apron is that they use fresh produce from farms that they have formed partnerships with. Blue Apron monitors progress at the farms with soil tests and farm sensors – they want to make sure that the soil is “healthy.” Their membership-model helps them to predict their weekly orders which enables them to work with the farmers to plan and utilize crops so that they only grow what is needed. That helps to eliminate food waste by 62%.
The meals come with step-by-step instruction cards. If that wasn’t enough, the recipes and directions are also posted on the Blue Apron website along with some handy tips, some with a handy video tutorial.
My box came with an additional information card called Extra Helpings: Bonus tips, tricks, and tidbits for better home cooking. The emphasis on my card is Chile Peppers and had pictures of different types of chile peppers along with a little bit of information about them. On the flip side of the card is a recipe for Jalapeno Poppers.

Blue Apron offers a 2-person plan as well as a family plan that serves 4. They can accommodate various diets, including pescetarian and vegetarian. If you don’t eat red meat, fish, shellfish, pork, or lamb, don’t fret. You can go in and look at the options and personalize your delivery. Going on vacation? You can go into your account and skip that week’s delivery.

What I Like About Blue Apron
I like that Blue Apron meals are familiar yet extraordinary. They have recipes that I would not normally make on my own but am glad I tried. Blue Apron not only introduces me to ingredients that I had not yet tried but teaches me how to use them. I think trying Blue Apron is a great way for everyday cooks to become better cooks.
